Job Overview

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research & Instruction, the Scholarly Communications Librarian is responsible for leading library publishing services and developing scholarly communication programs and services to advance open access through sustainable publishing models. This role requires an energetic professional with expertise in scholarly communications, a strong commitment to access to knowledge, and the ability to foster collaborations across stakeholders.

This 12-month tenure track position.

Essential Functions

  • Creates and maintains resources on open access and scholarly publishing.
  • Supports existing publication platforms, Open Journal Systems and PressBooks, including the development of workflows, policies, and procedures for these platforms.
  • Offers consultation to faculty on topics such as publishing agreements and content creation on publication platforms.
  • Partners with the Associate Dean of Collections, OhioLINK, and others to administer Read and Publish or other transformative publishing agreements.
  • Undertakes outreach and education which promotes scholarly publishing services and resources available through UC Libraries.
  • Partners with the Digital Initiatives unit to ensure successful capture of digital scholarship which promotes open access and dissemination of the University's research.
  • Administers the Open Educational Resources (OER) internal grant program.
  • Advocates for open access and open educational resources on campus through engagement with relevant UC offices and committees.
  • Represents UC Libraries in dialogue surrounding open access and scholarly communications with the university and broader academic community.

Required Education

Graduate degree in Library and Information Science or an advanced degree in a relevant field.

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly communication practices, library publishing, open access initiatives, and the scholarly publishing lifecycle.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programming.
  • Familiarity with repository platforms and library publishing platforms, such as Open Journal Systems and PressBooks.
  • Evidence of successful project management involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a variety of teams and stakeholders.

  • Record of participation in professional organizations or initiatives related to scholarly communications.
  • Familiarity with metadata standards and digital preservation practices.
  • Knowledge of licensing best practices
