Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse (RN)
The Pediatric PACU Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, family-centered care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical or diagnostic procedures. This role requires specialized knowledge in pediatric assessment, airway management, and post-operative care to ensure the safe and effective recovery of patients ranging from newborns to adolescents.
Monitor and assess pediatric patients recovering from general, regional, or local anesthesia.
Provide age-appropriate care including pain management, vital signs monitoring, airway maintenance, and emotional support.
Recognize and respond to emergency situations, such as respiratory distress or cardiac compromise.
Administer medications, including sedatives, analgesics, and emergency drugs, in accordance with physician orders and protocols.
Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Provide education and discharge instructions to families and caregivers tailored to the developmental level of the child.
Ensure proper documentation of care, assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
Maintain infection control and safety standards in compliance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Support and reassure patients and families throughout the perioperative process.
Required Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
Current RN license state-specific
BLS, PALS required
ACLS preferred
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of pediatric or PACU/critical care nursing experience preferred
Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills
Proficiency in pediatric airway management and pain assessment
Compassionate, family-focused communication
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Strong team collaboration and decision-making skills
Knowledge of pediatric developmental stages and their implications for care
