JOB TITLE : Health and Wellness Coach
CLASSIFICATION: Per Diem, Non-Exempt
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT: Health and Wellness
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Health and Wellness Center Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY: The Health & Wellness Coach will ensure a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes wellness and engagement under the direction of the Health & Wellness Associate/Coordinator and Vice President of Clinical Integration. Supports the health and wellness needs of the people we serve, Intandem staff, as well as our community. Maintains safety standards for the facility and delivers programming that meets a diverse range of needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education, Training & Experience:
High School Diploma
Two (2) years experience working with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities supporting health and wellness initiatives.
Preferred Education, Training & Experience:
Fitness or personal trainer certification, a degree in a health related field (Human Service, Social Science (or related Social Service), Exercise Science, Occupational Therapy (or Occupational Therapy Assistant), Physical Therapy (or Physical Therapy Assistant), etc.
One (1) year experience working with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience deemed acceptable for the position.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Valid New York State driver’s license that meets the Agency’s driving policy
Ability to work outside normal business hours when needed to meet agency needs
Possesses strong knowledge of physiology, exercise technique, and body mechanics
Possesses knowledge of safe use of gym equipment and ability to education/train the people on use of the equipment accordingly.
Ability to multitask and stay organized and maintain cleanliness of the facility
Positive, motivating and effective interpersonal communication skills
Excellent communication and customer attention skills to provide instruction, demonstration, and constructive feedback to gym staff/participants as needed to all fitness levels
Obtain and maintain BLS/CPR as directed
Possesses Functional knowledge of basic computer applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word-processing, e-mail, etc.)
Ability to safely lift and move up to 40 lbs
SALARY:
$18-$20 per hour starting rate based on experience

In 2018, two regional chapters of NYSARC joined forces and embarked on a journey to set a new standard for collaboration among agencies serving individuals with disabilities.
The two organizations have a rich history—both with the communities they serve and in which they serve, along with their independent brand identities. In identifying a parent brand, all parties worked together to craft a likeness that honors both the heritage of each agency and their combined mission to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Throughout the brainstorming meetings, one theme prevailed—togetherness. While the process, funding, legislation, and even definition of what it means to serve people with disabilities has changed dramatically over the tenure of our organizations, one thing that has not changed is the commitment to togetherness. Both organizations recognize that, as people, we’re better together—disabilities or not, Olean or Niagara, it doesn’t matter.
