We produce category leader Bonterra (named the 2016 Wine Enthusiast American Winery of the Year); sustainability standout Fetzer; and 1000 Stories, California's original Bourbon barrel-aged wine.

As an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Intern, you'll be part of a dynamic team committed to best-in-class EH&S practices in both field and production environments. This role offers hands-on experience in environmental compliance, vineyard and cellar safety.
Responsibilities
• Evaluate pending environmental regulations and prepare detailed reports including potential impacts and recommended actions
• Help us reinforce a strong safety culture and engage our employees
• Assist in creating tools and resources to support safety initiatives
• Participate in environmental compliance efforts, including monitoring and reporting for wastewater, stormwater runoff, and other California-specific regulatory requirements
• Assist in incident investigations by gathering data, identifying root causes, and contributing to the development of corrective and preventive actions
• Collect, analyze, and maintain EH&S data to support internal reporting, compliance tracking, and continuous improvement efforts
• Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership
Must Requirements
• Currently attending or graduated from a college/university in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field
• Demonstrated interest in environmental compliance and workplace safety, particularly in agricultural and production environments
• Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work
• Effective organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Time management and ability to balance competing projects and priorities
• Analytical mindset with the ability to collect and interpret data, research regulations, and draw meaningful conclusions
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with data tracking or reporting tools is a plus
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments?including vineyard and production areas?which may be loud, dusty, muddy, or include uneven terrain and varying weather conditions
• Driver's License required
• Must work well under general supervision
• Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and all levels of management in English, both written and verbal
Preferred
• Bilingual English and Spanish (speaking, reading, writing)
• Previous experience or interest in viticulture practices or winemaking/enology
• The following coursework will set you apart: Environmental Studies or Science; Public Safety (EMT/Paramedic); or Occupational Safety
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. and push/pull up to 30 lbs. on a frequent basis; requires ability to frequently stand, walk and sit; occasionally climb, crawl, squat, kneel and bend; reach outward and upward; requires constant hand and finger dexterity for keyboarding and working at computer. Requires PPE such as hearing protection and safety glasses.
Location and Schedule - The internship is onsite at our production facility located at 12901 Old River Rd. Hopland, CA 95449. We're flexible with your schedule, offering 24-32 hours per week from early June 2025 through mid-August or September. There is consideration to continue into the Fall semester depending on candidate availability and business needs.
Compensation - The hourly range for this role is targeted between $25 to $32 per hour. Actual rates will vary and are based on a candidate’s relevant education, qualifications, experience, skillset, competencies, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.
