Verisk is a leading data analytics and technology partner to the global insurance industry, and they are seeking an Associate Scientist in Statistics and Data Science. The role involves analyzing insurance claims data from catastrophic events, testing methodologies, documenting results, and assisting client services with explanations and visualizations. Responsibilities:

• Analyze insurance claims data from catastrophic events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, flood, and severe thunderstorms
• Test accuracy of new methodologies by writing code in R or C++ and run simulations
• Present findings concisely and create clear visualizations
• Assist the client services team in explaining methodology and answering client questions

Qualifications: Required:

• Graduate degree in a quantitative field, such as data science, statistics, mathematics, or computer science, with 2-3 years of professional experience with data analytics projects is required
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, a solid understanding of probability concepts, and excellent problem-solving skills
• Basic programming knowledge required; familiarity with R or similar statistical language is preferred. Knowledge of SQL is a plus
• Excellent oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are required
• Ability to work independently or with a team

Preferred:

• Background in data science/machine learning highly desired
• Experience with any of the following would be a big plus: insurance claim data, insurance policy conditions, actuarial science, database management
