Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Tutor/Mentor for TRIO Upward Bound. The Tutor/Mentor will work closely with TRIO Upward Bound students to ensure successful matriculation through high school, and entry and completion of postsecondary educational programs.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic tutoring to students.
  • Data collection, entry, and analysis of student progress and outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit tutoring/student contact reports.
  • Serve as mentor to students in grades nine through twelve.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director and Student Development Coordinator on various aspects of the mentoring component.
  • Support the execution of parental workshops designed to support student success.
  • Assist with the execution of student-related activities and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 60+ college credit hours completed required.
  • One year experience working with minors, preferably high school-aged children.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks.
  • The TRIO Upward Bound faculty and staff work with children. All employees must be able to pass a Nevada State and Clark County School District background check.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Overcome similar barriers to the target population.
  • English/Spanish bilingual.

Work Hours:

This position will work 15 - 19.5 hours per week.

Hourly Rate:

$15.00 - $20.00 per hour.
